Harsha murder Karnataka
At present, everything is under control in Shivamogga. Around 1,200 policemen are already deployed in Shivamogga and 200 more cps have been sent from Bengaluru to maintain the law and order situation. We've instructed SPs of other districts to closely monitor the situation, the Karnataka Home Minister informed.
The deceased had participated in protests against the wearing of hijab in educational institutions by Hindu groups earlier this month, which had seen many Hindu students and protestors wearing saffron scarves in reaction against the wearing of hijab by Muslim students. Photos of Harsha in a saffron scarf, protesting with students at Sahyadri College in Shivamogga on 7 February were shared on his social media pages.
“There were a few minor incidents following the death of a young man, but the situation was brought under control quickly,” Dr R. Selvamani, Deputy Commissioner of Shivamogga told reporters Monday.
Meanwhile, the mother of Harsha said her son made a sacrifice for this county. “I told him to get married and he would always say he wants to serve this nation and wants to die for this country,” she recalled while desperately crying for her lost son.
Shivamogga, Karnataka: A 26-year-old worker of the Bajrang Dal was stabbed to death by some unknown person in Karnataka's Shivamogga on the night of February 20. The Bajrang Dal worker, identified as Harsha, was reportedly chased and murdered last night in Shivamogga's Bharati Colony. The police have arrested three persons in connection with the murder case. State BJP leaders and Vishva Hindu Parishad condemned the murder and alleged the role of some Islamic outfits. The administration has tightened the security in Shivamogga as the situation is tense in the area following the incident.
“The hijab issue has nothing to do with this incident and it has happened for different reasons. Shivamogga is a sensitive city. The incident has taken place on the main road and the police are on high alert. We have clues, shortly they will be arrested. I appeal to the people to maintain calm. All measures have been taken, people should not get provoked. The government will give justice to the deceased person. Special teams have been formed to nab the murderers, shortly we will give updates on it," Araga Jnanendra explained.
Prohibitory orders (to prevent unlawful gatherings, protests and agitations) were imposed under Section 144 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) Shivamogga Sunday, following the alleged murder and subsequent violence. A holiday was also declared in schools and colleges in the district Monday, as a precautionary measure.
Bengaluru: Existing tense situations in Karnataka over the ongoing hijab row in the state, took a turn for the worse Sunday, with the alleged killing of a Bajrang Dal activist, Harsha, late Sunday evening. The 26-year-old was allegedly hacked to death by unidentified assailants in the state’s Shivamogga district, around 9.30 PM, Sunday, said local police.
“A hindu karyakarta, Harsha, was killed by a group of four or five men. The motive and the identity of the assailants is not known yet. The police will thoroughly investigate and apprehend the accused. Harsha too had a couple of cases filed against him. I appeal to everybody not to let emotions get the better of you,” Home Minister Jnanendra said, while addressing reporters in Shivamogga Monday.
