Why Does Kameng Hydro Power Station Matter?

 Kameng Hydroelectric Project is located in West Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh, Kameng Hydroelectric Project (600 MW) is a run-of-river scheme to generate electricity from Bichom and Bichom at a gross head of 536 m available downstream of the confluence of Bichom river with Kameng.


  1.  It uses the flow of the Tenga rivers (both tributaries of the Kameng river).
  2.  The project consists of the Bichom and Tenga 2 dams.
  3.  km Power House is fed water through Head Race Tunnel (HRT) and HPT/Penstock to drive 4 Vertical France Turbines of 150 MW each.
  4.  The design energy of the project is 3353 MU in 90% dependable year with 95% machine availability.
  5.  Unit-I and Unit-II were commissioned in the month of June and July of 2020 respectively, Unit-III and Unit-IV were commissioned in the month of January and February of 2021 respectively.
  6.  The construction of this project has also benefited the surrounding project area through development of construction activities, education, medical facilities, CSR activities and employment opportunities.
